HALLOWEEN SAFETY
Halloween Safety Tips from Mount Vernon's Mayor Matt Starr- click on the image above to watch the video!

As we get closer to Halloween, consider the risks associated with various festive fall activities. We want our community to enjoy the spirit of the season, and not of COVID-19.
FLU SHOTS AVAILABLE
This year it especially important to get your annual flu shot. The CDC recommends a yearly flu vaccine as the best protection against seasonal flu viruses. CDC officials indicate it’s likely that flu viruses and COVID-19 will both be circulating throughout the U.S. at the same time. Even though getting a flu shot will not protect you against COVID-19, it can still reduce your risk of becoming seriously ill from the seasonal flu and even dying from it. Flu activity traditionally begins to increase in October and can last as late as May, with cases typically peaking between December and February.

Flu shots are available, by appointment-only at the Community Health Center located in Mount Vernon and Danville.
Even if your loved one is homebound, they still need a flu shot. To help reach all of our community members, we offer flu shots for homebound individuals. On Saturday, October 17th and November 7th, a limited number of flu shot appointments are available.

Call the Community Health Center at 740-399-8008 to make a flu shot appointment or to request an in-home flu shot appointment. Click on the image above to learn more, or download your flu shot paperwork to expedite the process.
VOTE, KNOX COUNTY!
Knox Public Health wants you to know that you have the opportunity to vote safely in the November 3, 2020 General Election. Several options exist for you to exercise your fundamental right to vote. In particular, you may:
  1. Request an absentee ballot by mail. Ohio law allows you to request an absentee ballot until noon on Saturday, October 31, 2020. However, election officials strongly encourage voters to request their ballot no later than 1 week before the election (Tuesday, October 27, 2020) in order to allow the US Postal Service adequate time to mail both your request form and your completed ballot. You may also drop your ballot off at the board of election’s drop box without having to leave your vehicle.

  2. Should you wish to vote in-person, you may consider voting early at the board of elections up until 2:00 PM on Monday, November 2, 2020, or at your polling location from 6:30 AM - 7:30 PM on Tuesday, November 3, 2020. In either case, we STRONGLY encourage you to utilize the “curbside voting” method, which will allow you to vote from your car without exposing yourself to other voters. A bipartisan team of election officials will provide you with a ballot that you will be able to privately and securely cast.

  3. Ohio law permits additional voting opportunities for confined or unforeseeably hospitalized voters. Contact the Knox County Board of Elections for additional details.
