BTS’s J-Hope Proves His Popularity In The U.K. By Debuting On The Singles Chart

This article is more than 4 years old.

2019 is already the best year on record for BTS in the U.K., as they charted four singles inside the top 100 (with music from two albums), and their full-length Map of the Soul: Persona made history as the first K-pop release to rise all the way to No. 1 on the albums chart. After touring the world, giving fans two projects and promoting them globally, the group has decided to take a very short break, but now one of the members has gone and made a name for himself in the country in no time.

BTS member J-Hope debuts on this week’s U.K. singles chart with his new song “Chicken Noodle Soup,” which enters the race at No. 82. The track is his first solo effort to make it to the tally, though he’s already earned quite a few appearances as one of the seven vocalists in BTS.

Including his work with the band (which is typically credited as a whole unit, even if not every member performs on every track), J-Hope has now landed on the U.K. singles ranking 10 times throughout just the past two years. “Chicken Noodle Soup” gives featured singer Becky G just her third charting single.

J-Hope and Becky G have certainly crafted a catchy tune, but they also definitely benefit from a viral video sensation connected to the music video they released alongside the single. Fans keep posting clips of themselves interpreting the musician’s dance, and all those streams both contribute to the global total and help introduce millions of people to the cut.

“Chicken Noodle Soup” debuts ahead of at least two other brand new cuts from some musicians who are also popular in the U.K. as well. Diplo and the Jonas Brothers start their collaboration “Lonely” at No. 91, while rapper DaBaby sees his single “Intro” begin its time on the list at No. 97.

In the coming week, “Chicken Noodle Soup” may debut on charts all around the world, and if the dance craze continues to grow, the track could continue to climb in the U.K. Even if it vanishes next time around, J-Hope has done something truly incredible, and he’s established his solo career as one to watch.
