A book capturing the pride and spirit of more than 3,000 events held nationwide last year to commemorate the 1916 Easter Rising was officially launched at the GPO last night.

Culture Minister Heather Humphreys said 'Centenary', which she commissioned, reflected the "record level of engagement" across all levels of society in the most extensive series of public events in Irish history. "I was deeply moved by what I saw," she said of more than 3,000 events - from the Easter Sunday ceremony and parade outside the GPO to thousands of community festivities - held to reflect on the pivotal moment in Irish history.

The book, spearheaded by Ronan McGreevy, retails for €25, and contains a foreword by President Michael D Higgins.
