How Fulcrum Became Our Asset Management Solution

Sure, I think. Let’s use Google sheets and track the inventory. If only there was an app that I could use to take the information off a barcode and correlate it to an existing asset…

Tagging Assets

Let’s start at the end and work backward… we need to tag all of our assets. Easy, right? But what information do we need to capture? Oh, I know: type of equipment, serial number, who it is assigned to and proof of documentation.

Somehow, our Professional Services team had already read my mind and custom built a Fulcrum app for asset management to my liking. But wait — I need to love it!

I sat with them, probably rolling my eyes and dragging my feet on what was expected, and they asked the magic question, “What do you need this app to do?”

Wait! Are you saying I don’t have to compromise what I need to make the app work for me? I have full reign? (Approval pending, of course.)

The Pro Services team are the perfect teachers. They took the time to work with me on the app on my phone and desktop, and with Joe’s help as my sounding board, we tested ideas until a viable solution was achieved and immediately implemented.

My project got the attention and time it deserved, and now tagging assets has become a much smoother task.

I have peripherally known what we do since I started working at Spatial Networks five months ago, but now I get to be an end user, where my needs and wants are in the forefront. Creating things is cool but to create something to match your individual needs is even cooler!

To be able to use our own app to track our assets was not something I had considered, but I’m a big believer of thinking outside the box. In this case, my box was Google sheets.
