relieving-fibromyalgia-in-honolulu-hawaiiWhat is Fibromyalgia?

Fibromyalgia comes from three Latin terms: fibro meaning fibrous tissue, myo meaning muscle, and algia meaning pain. Therefore, it refers to pain and tenderness felt throughout the body in the muscles and tissues. Although it is not technically arthritis, it is considered to be related to arthritis. Approximately five million adults living in the USA are affected. About ninety percent of these are women.

Because there is no known cause, it is very hard to find relief care that will work. Some theories are that fibromyalgia comes on because of emotional or physical trauma, injury, or sickness. In some cases, there is no cause seen what-so-ever. What most medical doctors will recommend are painkillers and physical therapy. However, neither of these address the root cause of the fibromyalgia that, according to research, may have to do with the way the nervous system responds to pain signals.

Can Upper Cervical Chiropractic Care Really Help with Fibromyalgia?

Upper cervical chiropractors want to help their patients address the underlying cause of pain. Research has revealed that if a misalignment is present within one of the two bones of the upper neck vertebrae, it may be causing undue pressure to be placed on the spinal column and, therefore, affect the way the nervous system sends and receives pain signals. Because of this, distorted signals to and from the brain and body can cause a person to feel heightened pain when there is actually little or no pain.

We begin our exam by looking closely at the spine to see if a misalignment is present. Then we will develop a relief plan for each individual patient. Corrections are given only when needed, allowing the natural healing process to begin. Once these misalignments are corrected, many have reported a decrease in the symptoms of fibromyalgia. Others have seen the condition completely resolve. Scheduling an appointment with us can be a step forward in better health.
