WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - A Hallsboro man died as a result of a shooting Saturday afternoon in Wilmington.

Percy Woods, 40, was killed in the shooting at South Sixth and Castle streets.

"There's been a shooting, black male with a handgun shot at Luna Café. There's a market going on over here and a food truck. He's firing shots at people," someone reported when calling 911 adding they had heard around 10 shots fired. "Several people were in that vicinity. We're in the field across the street and saw him run, but several people were there when he was shooting."

According to Jennifer Dandron with the Wilmington Police Department, officers responded to the area around 2:40 p.m. Saturday.

When officers arrived on scene, they found Woods, who was taken to the hospital.

"He was shot multiple times at close range," another person said in a 911 call.

Woods died later that day.

A witness near the scene told WECT that he saw a man walk up to the driver's side of a vehicle with a handgun, shoot five or six times and then run down Sixth Street.
