Syndicado inks digital distribution deal with Screen Media Ventures

Toronto-based digital distribution company Syndicado has secured a deal with Screen Media Ventures, the parent company of digital streaming site Popcornflix, that sees Popcornflix debuting over 40 hours of content on its American platform.

Unscripted series include cooking competition series Cake Walk (pictured), culinary docusoap Chef School and reality programs Rich Bride, Poor Bride, Keys to the VIP and The Girl Ghost Hunters.

Media Ranch announces international sales for multiple titles

Canadian production/distribution company Media Ranch has sold a spate of formats and ready-made content following this year’s MIPCOM.

First off, global media company SPI International has acquired True Sex Confessions for broadcast in Poland. The 13 x 30-minute series had originally run on Canadian French-language channel Moi & Cie  under the title Vraies Histoires de Sexe.

Meanwhile, international production/distribution company Banjiay Group secured the format rights to remake 1990s Canadian blind dating show Thunderstruck in Australia, France, Denmark and Italy.

The series is currently being remade for Quebec’s Vtélé channel, under the name Coup de Foudre.

Finally, EndemolShine France has secured the rights to remake Legal House Call in France, a spinoff from long-running Dutch format Verdict on Demand. The format sees a legal expert making house visits to people struggling with legal issues.

Magnify Media secures agreements for Canadian formats

Magnify Media, a distribution and rights-management company in the UK, has solidified a series of agreements for When a Designer Knocks, a recently-launched format by Canadian prodco Zone 3.

The agreements include a deal with Banijay Nordics across Sweden, Norway, Finland and Denmark, as well as deals with Tuvalu Media in Holland, Zodiak in Belgium, Screentime in Australia, Constantin Entertainment in Germany and Newen’s Production Valley in France.

The format features a celebrity designer and a comedian giving home makeovers to unwitting homeowners.

Magnify’s new distribution deal with Zone 3 also sees Magnify representing format All for a Cottage, which was originally produced for Canadian channel Canal Vie.

The launches of All for a Cottage and When a Designer Knocks represent Magnify’s first experience working with Canadian formats.

Orange Smarty secures doc on British royal couple

UK distributor Orange Smarty has secured the distribution rights to ITN Productions documentary Prince Harry and Meghan: Truly, Madly, Deeply.

Produced for UK commercial broadcaster ITV, the doc will feature interviews with people who boast close relationships with the couple, and examine how Meghan Markle’s potential impact on the British monarchy.
