Many people dream of quitting their job and travelling the world, but for most of us, financial constraints quickly deter such thoughts.

However Laurence and Jessica Norah turned this dream into a reality and gave some tips on how you can too.

Currently based in Edinburgh, UK, the couple are travellers, photographers and writers who are slowly exploring the world.

For Laurence, the decision to quit his job and go travelling came after eight years of working as a software developer, he decided that he wanted to do something else, and moved to Australia for a year.

It was during his time in Australia that he decided to start a blog documenting his travels.

After he met his future wife Jessica, a former psychologist, at a travel conference in Italy three years ago, the two decided to make a full-time go of travelling and blogging.

When it comes to making money from blogging, Laurence, who is a well established photographer and gives photography courses online, said that it took him a long time to figure out how best to do it.

In addition he says that making money from blogging is something that is quite difficult.

"A lot of people look at this [blogging] as an easy thing to do, it's not quite as easy or as glamorous as you would imagine, you have to have high quality content and work very hard.

Also, you need to be a jack of all trades, there is a lot of work that goes behind that one Instagram photo that you see that looks great.

In addition, this is something you have to really be very passionate about, I love it, I love working with my wife together 24/7, that's fantastic for us, but a lot more goes on behind the scenes than people realise," he says.

In addition, he says describes blogging as a "scary thing" to do, "the 9-5 is reliable and steady and it keeps going.

"With blogging, you see the success stories but it takes a lot of work,

like any small business, they don't all succeed, we love it but it does not mean that everyone will."

Laurence and Jessica also make money by working with brands on influence and marketing campaigns, and they earn affiliate revenue – that is revenue from generated from recommending different places to stay and tours to do.

In respect of the affiliate revenue, Laurence says that it is really important that they are transparent and disclose this to their followers.

In terms of tips that he would give to people that are considering travelling and starting a blog, Laurence recommends that people pick a niche, something they are passionate about writing about.

In addition he advises wannabe bloggers to focus on the quality of the content, "if you don’t know how to do something, go to a conference or take a course online, and you really have to keep at it."
