From some of the most historic sites in the country to panoramic ocean views and architecture that will absolutely take your breath away, you're going to want to get up close and personal with The Classic Coast.

Feel free to park your ride in these lots, streets and somewhat secret spots, get out and enjoy the view.  Please note, rates are subject to change during the 2024 parking season. Handicap parking information can be found below

Here's everything you need to know.

 

PUBLIC PARKING LOTS

1 Newport Gateway Center Lot

23 America's Cup Avenue, Newport
The Gateway Center serves as Newport's main transportation hub, with buses and trolleys departing regularly. Park your car in the lot and get on a trolley to travel throughout town worry-free.

Note: The Newport Visitor Information Center has moved from 23 America's Cup Avenue to 21 Long Wharf Mall and is stocked with brochures on shopping, dining, events, things to do, maps and more. For hours and information, click here

The Gateway Parking Lot can accommodate only a limited number of recreational vehicles (RVs) and no vehicle over 15 feet long is permitted in the lot (no trailers permited). Tall vehicles and vehicles with roof-carriers must use the Bolhouse St. entrance due to the height restrictions at the America’s Cup Ave. entrance.

Cost: 
  • November 1 - April 30: Free 
  • May 1 - October 31: $5 per hour, billed in 30-minute increments, $40 per day

  • Daily: 24 Hours, 7 Days/week

 

 

2 Mary Street Lot

Located between lower Mary Street and lower Church Street
The Mary Street lot offers 120 parking spaces, plus a public restroom open daily in season, and operates on a pay-by-plate parking system. A public restroom is located in the lot and is open seasonally May 1 - October 31. 

Cost: 
  • November 1 - April 30: Free 
  • May 1 - October 31: $3 per hour, and $20 per day
  • Newport Residents: up to 3 hours free, once per day with valid resident sticker, must enter plate at kiosk.

 

Hours of Operation:

3 Touro Street Lot

Entrance on Clarke Street
The Touro Street parking lot is accessible from Clarke Street and offers 30 available spaces. Parking is limited to three hours. The lot runs on a pay-by-plate parking system which accepts coins, bills and credit cards. Simply select the number of hours you will be parked, make your payment and then place the receipt on your dashboard. 

Cost: 
  • November 1 – April 30: Free 
  • May 1 - October 31: TBD—rates subject to change in the 2023 season. 

 

Hours of Operation: 
  • Daily: 8:00 AM - 9:00 PM, 3 hour limit

 

 

4 Easton's Beach Lot

Easton's Beach, Memorial Boulevard
The Easton's Beach lot is accessible from Memorial Boulevard. 

Cost:

April 1st - November 30th:

  • Residents Seasonal Parking passes: Residents $50, Seniors $30*
  • Non-Residents Seasonal Parking passes: $100, Seniors $60
  • Daily Parking: $15 per car weekdays. $25 per car weekends and holidays

 

Hours of Operation:
  • Weekdays: 9:00 AM - 9:00 PM, Memorial - Labor Day
  • Weekends: 8:00 AM - 9:00 PM, Memorial - Labor Day

 

 

5 Long Wharf Lot

Accessible from America's Cup Avenue
Not to be confused with the Private Parking lot at Long Wharf Mall, the public Long Wharf parking lot is accessible from America's Cup Avenue on Long Wharf, and, like Touro, is a small lot of approximately thirty spaces. Parking is available for a maximum of nine hours per day. Payment is a pay-by-plate parking system, which accepts coins, bills and credit cards. Simply select the number of hours you will be parked, make your payment and then place the receipt on your dashboard.

Cost: 
  • November 1 - April 30: Free 
  • May 1 - October 31: TBD—rates subject to change in the 2023 season. 

 

Hours of Operation:

Metered Parking

Metered parking is available throughout downtown Newport, payment can be made via the pay station kiosks or the Passport Parking App. For more information, and download the Passport Parking App, click here

  • November 1 - April 30: No fee for parking, but a 3 hour limit is in effect until 6:00 PM daily.
  • May 1 - October 31: Pay-by-plate is in effect 9:00 AM - 9:00 PM (or 12:00 AM area dependent) daily

 

Cost: 

Rates are subject to change in the 2023 season. 

  • Downtown: $1.50 - $2.00 per hour, 3-hour limit, Narragansett Ave., pay-by-plate 4 hour limit.*
  • Beach on Memorial Blvd: $2 per hour, 3-hour limit 
  • Residents: Starting July 1, with a resident sticker—you can park in ANY metered space around town FREE of charge for up to 2 HOURS per day.

PASSPORT PARKING APP

Simply park where you see PassportParking signs & decals, pay for your parking session from your phone, and be on your way. With the Passport Parking App, you will get notifications of time expiring and have the ability to extend parking from the convenience of you phone. 

How do I pay for parking with PassportParking?
  1. Download the PassportParking app from the Apple App Store or Google Play.
  2. ​Create an account with your cell phone number.
  3. Park anywhere you see PassportParking app signs & decals.
  4. Enter your license plate and length of stay.
  5. Pay for your parking session from your phone. Extend your time remotely if you’d like to stay extra!

 

PARKING AT CLIFF WALK

Parking for Cliff Walk and Forty Steps is located at the end of Narragansett Avenue with a pay-by-plate parking meter. The Pay Station is located next to the restrooms. Metered Parking is in effect from 9 AM – 9 PM and is $1.25 - $2.00 per hour an hour with a 4-hour limit. Enter your license plate number and make your payment—there's no need to put a receipt on your dashboard. Machine accepts credit cards, dollars and coins. Restrooms are open daily from sunrise to sunset. 

Parking along Easton's Beach is also available and enforced daily from 9:00 AM - 9:00 PM daily.  

*Please note due to structural damage to a section of the Cliff Walk, detours will be in place between Narragansett Avenue and Webster Street for the foreseeable future. The remainder of the walk will be open for all those walkers who make use of this iconic coastal trail. When parking on Narragansett Avenue, please follow the Cliff Walk to the left, towards Easton's Beach, for a detour-free walking path. 

HANDICAP PARKING

Handicap parking is free in designated handicap spaces on public streets, and in non-designated spots. The meters do not need to be fed, parking stickers are not required, and they are not bound by time limits.

 

 

FREE PARKING

Various locations throughout the city exist without metered parking, including Spring Street (one block up from Thames Street), Broadway, and Wellington Avenue located on lower Thames. 

 

 

PARKING RESTRICTIONS

The Residential Sticker Parking Program in effect from May 1 - October 1 designates specific streets as Residential Sticker Parking streets which means that parking is restricted only to vehicles displaying a residential parking permit. Keep an eye out for signs on the streets where these restrictions are enforced as the rules vary from street to street.

 

 

Free “Hop-On Hop-Off” Trolley

WHAT: The Rhode Island Public Transit Authority launched a free “Hop-On Hop-Off” bus service promotion in Newport beginning May 26. The service offers transportation around Newport to tourist destinations. This includes all service on Route 67 (Bellevue/Salve Regina University). The service will be free through Oct. 31, 2023.

COST: Free. Park at the Newport Transportation Center. Parking will cost $5 with RIPTA voucher (or receipt) from driver, green and yellow trolleys ONLY.

ROUTES

Route 67 (Bellevue/Salve Regina Univ.) Passengers can ride Route 67 to popular attractions such as the Newport Mansions, Cliff Walk, Audrain Automobile Museum, International Tennis Hall of Fame and more.
