Star Trek Discovery wraps Toronto filming
New TV drama Star Trek: Discovery has wrapped production on its first season in Toronto.

New TV drama Star Trek: Discovery has wrapped production on its first season in Toronto, eastern Canada.
The series was based at Pinewood Toronto Studios, which offers a dozen sound stages, including a 45,900-sq-ft ‘mega stage’.
Star Trek: Discovery occupied five stages over the course of its shoot.
The production team built sets for two separate starships, a transportation room – for Star Trek’s iconic ‘beaming’ technology – and a mess hall, according to a Bloomberg report. The show cost up to $8m an episode.
Discovery launched before it wrapped and is the first Star Trek TV series to be commissioned since Star Trek: Enterprise, which ran for four seasons until its end in 2005.
The show is also the first Star Trek drama to be launched on a streaming service, on CBS’ All Access network in the US, and internationally through Netflix.
Toronto is one of the top production hubs in the whole of North America. The city’s suburbs doubled for Maine in the recent movie adaptation of Stephen King’s It, which is now the most successful horror film of all time.
Elsewhere in Toronto, Cinespace Film Studios is the home of critically-acclaimed dystopian drama The Handmaid’s Tale.
