SETTLE Musical Theatre’s youth section has announced it will change its name to Courthouse Kids Theatre.

Relaunched in 2013, the youth group was set up to encourage those aged between eight and 18 years old in the area with an interest in theatre to learn new skills, grow, develop and feel part of a community.

The youth section follows the adult society which also changed its name earlier this year from Settle Amateur Operatic Society to Settle Musical Theatre as part of its 140th-anniversary celebrations. Settle Musical Theatre was chosen as it felt it provided a better reflection of the shows produced by the society in the last few decades. The society also hopes the name change will encourage a new wave of members to join and ensure the continued success of the organisation for generations to come.

As part of the new launch, the team behind the youth group, the Courthouse Theatre Supporters, is providing a theatre skills and stage craft summer school.

It will run at Victoria Hall, Settle, from August 19 to August 23 from 9am to 4pm each day. Costs £100 per week, or £175 for two siblings, and will end with a pop-up version of ‘Grease’. All profits will go towards helping to produce future productions for Courthouse Kids Theatre. Contact courthousetheatre140@gmail.com for more information and to apply.
