Ingredients
3 apples, cored and chopped into 2 centimeter pieces
1 3/4 cups milk, dairy or non-dairy
1 1/2 cups water
1 cup steel cut oats
2 tablespoons maple syrup, plus more for serving
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
2 tablespoons ground flax seed
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
1 teaspoon cinnamon, plus more for serving
Buttermilk, optional, for serving
Directions
Spray your slow cooker well with cooking spray and pour in the apple, milk, water, oats, maple syrup, butter, flax seed, vanilla, salt, and cinnamon. Stir gently to combine.
Place the lid on the slow cooker, set it to low, and allow it to cook for six to seven hours. Serve with some extra maple syrup, cinnamon, and a few tablespoons of buttermilk, if desired.
