Dwayne Washington is a former wide receiver. At 6-2, 221 pounds, you can see that with his high-cut frame and running style. You can also see the speed, flexibility, strength, and quick-thinking that flows from his gait.

Washington isn’t starting for the Huskies. Football analyst Jake Brysdon has accurately criticized some of the things Washington cannot do. But to continue the theme I broached with the Alex Collins piece earlier this week, there are acquirable skills for running backs. Karlos Williams and Matt Jones earned justifiable criticism for what they couldn’t do and both are performing well during their rookie seasons.

Washington is probably best-suited for a gap-style, power running game. He may never earn rave reviews for doing everything that we often associate with top running back play, but it doesn’t preclude this big, fast, strong, and smooth player from becoming a good NFL contributor–maybe more than that.
