The 19th nominee for the “worst employer of 2017” is … the pizza punisher

Your 19th nominee for the worst employer of 2017 is a Jacksonville, Florida, Pizza Hut franchisee that threatened its employees if they skipped work because of Hurricane Irma.

Really.
Expectation is that all TM’s work their schedule until storm related closure (unless evacuating), then a 24 hour period will be given. … Again, failure to show for these shifts, regardless of reason, will be considered a no call/no show and documentation will be issued. … After the storm, we need all TM’s available to get the store up and running and serve our communities as needed.

The Washington Post reports that one employee was, in fact, written up for evacuating more than 24 hours before the storm.

God forbid someone wading through Irma’s storm-surged flood waters doesn’t get their Meat Lover’s® Pizza and Stuffed Garlic Knots. Safety forces and medical personal are one thing, but fast food workers? I’m speechless.

If you risk the lives of your minimum wage, fast food employees by requiring them to report to work before, during, or after a natural disaster, you might be the worst employer of 2017.
