Roller skating, it's not just for kids birthday parties and the 1970s anymore.

At least not at Pattini's Bistro and Skate, which announced it was open in Tampa this week.

The sushi restaurant, cocktail bar, roller rink and event space that turns 21-and-up after 10 p.m. is the latest addition to the plaza at 4465 W. Gandy Blvd. That's the same spot that got an injection of cool when South Tampa's first brewery, 81Bay Brewing, opened there last year.

Pattini's says it's going for an upscale vibe, with craft beer, a big list of specialty cocktails that includes a "West Tampa Old Fashioned," a food menu that includes fried chicken with "ancho chile red velvet waffles" and a full sushi bar.

The 20,000-square-foot space, decorated inside and outside with work by Art Aliens! also includes arcade games such as giant Pac Man and space for concerts.

Admission for roller skating is $15 with rental skates, or you can bring your own for $10.

Pattinis seems right in line with the current trend of activity bars, which are giving patrons more to do than eat, drink and maybe watch sports on TV.

In 2016, Lowry Parcade arcade bar opened in Tampa's Lowry Park neighborhood. That preceded Park & Rec and Right Around the Corner game bars opening in downtown St. Petersburg and the Grand Central District.

Pattinis posted hours are Wednesday and Thursday, 4 to 10 p.m., Friday, 4 p.m. to 1 a.m., Saturday, 11 a.m. to 1 a.m., and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

They will be closed this Saturday for the sold-out 13 Ugly Men '80s party, and on Aug. 20 for another private event.
