Procrastination is not an unusual habit, I do it all the time and just like you I feel super annoyed when it happens, guess what? That doesn’t stop me from wasting time. You have a deadline… instead of getting it done, you are fiddling with things like checking your social media in a loop, watching Youtube videos or looking for embarrassing pictures of celebs on Google, right?? You’re totally supposed to get that assignment done, but you just don’t feel like doing it anytime soon or even later. You know what? It’s bad habits like this that prevents us from achieving greater results in life. That’s why I decided to put together ways to make us stop the habit of procrastinating.Procrastinating

How to Stop Procrastinating: 5 Timeless Tips ?

1. Put it in writing. Write down the task you’ve been putting off for so many days in a piece of paper and stick it in front of you (literally). I tend to stick it to the wall I face when I lay in my bed. Doing this brings the project in front of you and it’s really hard to ignore it. For every Instagram picture you like you’ll see that haunting task asking to be completed. 2. Break it down into little steps. Part of the reason why we procrastinate is because subconsciously, we find the project too overwhelming to a point where we think it’s impossible to complete it. That’s why breaking it down into little parts, will help us focus on one part at the time. When I get stuck with a blog post I break it down to 5-7 steps e.g. 1) Research 2) Decide the title 3) Draft the content 4) Edit pictures 5) SEO 6) Revision/look for spelling mistakes 7) Publish contentProcrastinating3. Find the “right room”. Different environments have different impact on our productivity. If you have a 9-5 PM job that’s great, because you have a workplace that reminds you that you’re at work and need to get things done but how about who’s self-employed? We have our rooms/living rooms as a workspace which makes us want snuggle and sleep instead of getting work done. If you relate to that, you should think about changing your workspace. Go to a place where you feel inspired and productive. It could be your kitchen or a near by coffee shop. If that’s the case, don’t just stay in the “wrong room” until you feel guilty for not doing anything. Get up and move to the “right room”, a room where you’ll make the most of your time and once you’re done with the important stuff you can treat yourself and watch some TV and be lazy for as long as you want (one of those #WinWinSituations ??).Procrastinating 4. Ask someone to check up on you. It seems silly but having someone checking on your progress is extremely helpful and motivating. How embarrassing is it to have someone asking multiple times if you have completed a task? I find it a little humiliating and normally get it done before they ask me a second or third time. It doesn’t need to be a stranger, ask your friends and family to remind you about it until you’re actually done. Once it’s complete, send them a picture so they know you’re not trying to fool them. 5. Get your s* together and get things done! All these tips will help you quit the habit of procrastinating but it’s vital to take action. You can do all the planning and strategizing in the world, but if you don’t take action, well…reality check: nothing’s going to happen my friend. So, make sure to get your s* together and just do it!Procrastinating It’s genuinely hard to concentrate but so easy to get ourselves distracted and wasting time!
