ACL Music Festival Artist Spotlight: Lewis Capaldi

Lewis Capaldi

From Scottish pubs to arena tours, singer-songwriter Lewis Capaldi instantly gained a European following that was soon to cross over the pond. The Internet first learned about Capaldi after the self release of his first single “Bruises” in 2017. Reaching 28 million plays on Spotify shortly after the release, Capaldi was named the fastest unsigned artist to reach 25 million streams on the site.

The sound of Capaldi’s raspy voice paired with the smooth strums of his acoustic guitar resembles older Ed Sheeran tracks, one that is raw and authentic. Capaldi’s shaggy hair and soft smile symbolize the humbleness in a young Bathgate native who is just starting to break through international barriers while still learning about himself as an artist.

While fans across the world continued to fall in love with Capaldi, so did those managing music platforms. Less than two months after his first single hit the charts, Capaldi signed to Virgin Records and was named one of two artists on BBC Radio 1’s Brit List.

In Oct. 2017, Capaldi released his four track debut EP “Bloom” and then got the chance to play these songs live as he toured with artists Sam Smith, Milky Chance, and Niall Horan throughout 2017 and 2018.

Leaping into the year, Capaldi continued his focus on his new found fame, releasing singles “Rush”, “Tough”, and “Grace”. His newest single, “Grace”, was published on Sept. 21 with a music video to match. The video shows Capaldi on a club stage, humorously dancing in front of an all male audience who glare in utter confusion. Although the song “Grace” has emotional lyrics and passionate melodies, the sight of Capaldi carelessly spinning around in front of a camera reminds listeners that Capaldi is simply a talented, young artist who is having fun while living out his dream.

Lewis Capaldi will be playing both weekends at Austin City Limits Music Festival on the Miller Lite stage. Head over to hear some soulful tunes sang from the lungs of an ultimate lad.
