Alleged vegetable thief caught on camera at local Onondaga produce stand

Update: Further information on the suspect added.

ONONDAGA, N.Y. -- A video showing a woman making off with a wealth of produce from a locally run stand is becoming popular on Facebook.

The footage, posted Thursday afternoon, garnered more than 73,000 views in fewer than 24 hours.

The tape is reportedly from a surveillance camera at Abbodale Farm along Tanner Road. The video appears to be of a woman stealing from the farm's produce stand.

A woman can be seen dumping four crates of tomatoes into a provided plastic bag. The woman then moves on, picking up several green peppers and other items not seen on camera before picking up her bags up and walking out of the frame.

Dennis Abbott, who posted the video publicly on social media, said the woman came to the stand Sept. 21 with a man named Matt and took the items without paying for them. Susan Abbott, Dennis Abbott's wife, said the two also took several bags of potatoes.

Sgt. Jon Seeber, a spokesman for the Onondaga County Sheriff's Office, confirmed that the theft had been reported. Seeber estimated about $40 worth of produce was lost.

After the video was shared widely on social media, the Abbott's said later Friday evening they had a possible name and address for the woman shown. They thanked the public and said they were working with the sheriff's office.
