How to Roast Grapes

Admittedly, I never even thought to roast grapes until a few years back when we had a sponsored Recipe ReDux contest with the California Table Grape Commission.

Upon brainstorming, I discovered you could roast grapes much like tomatoes (another fruit!) Like any roasted fruit or veggies, the method results in a deeper, richer flavor from the oven heat. Recipe result from that contest: Honey Roasted Grapes with Peanut Butter Granola.

And it’s SO EASY. You don’t even need to remove the grapes from the stems. Simply plop them on a sheet lined with parchment or cooking spray, brush with some oil and pop into the oven.

They taste like grape jelly in your hand – naturally sweet and an awesome addition to so many recipes – case in point:

What to do with roasted grapes (besides eating them out of your hand):

  • Mix into oatmeal or add to cold cereal
  • Mix into grain dishes like quinoa, rice and farro
  • Toss over leafy green salads
  • Pair with roasted root veggies like potatoes, sweet potatoes, and beets
  • Use as a topping for grilled chicken or pork
  • Top over waffles, pancakes
  • Add to muffin and quick bread batters
  • Add to energy bites/balls

I dare you not to eat most of them before you use them as toppings for other dishes. Even better, plan to roast up two bunches – one of snacking and one to add to recipes.

Description

Roast your next bunch of grapes to add another level of flavor (think grape jelly!) and natural sweetness to oatmeal, salads, grain dishes and more.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 1/22 pounds seedless grapes, any variety
  • 1 tablespoon canola oil

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Cover a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Spread grapes out on a baking sheet (you can keep the stems on as long as all the grapes are touching the parchment individually.)
  • Brush with oil.
  • Bake/roast for 20-25 minutes or until grapes start to look shrunken.
  • Remove and cool baking sheet on a wire rack.
  • Remove stems, if necessary. Eat as is or use to top salads, grain dishes, oatmeal, chicken, pork or desserts.
  • Store remaining roasted grapes in a sealed container in the refrigerator for up to a week.

Have you ever roasted grapes before? If not, would you try this hack?
