Dear Chamber Partners,
Here at home in our Capital City, we have become quite effective at planning for weather- related occurrences having endured our share of hurricanes and floods. Now, our families and our business community are faced with the COVID-19 coronavirus. We are closely monitoring this and following accredited sources such as the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). It is our policy to prepare for any disruptive situation in a logical and systemic manner. After much discussion with our Partners, we have decided to make changes to our Calendar of Events through April 8.
In addition to the feedback we received from our Partners, the following information helped us decide to adjust our Calendar of Events. The CDC and world-renowned epidemiologists have established that the best preventative measure is to limit a person’s opportunity to be exposed to the virus. Avoiding large crowds or confined spaces helps limit that chance for exposure. And, by limiting the chance for exposure, we help curb the infection rate. By curbing the infection rate, this limits the demands placed on our health care providers. Health care providers are above capacity in managing this pandemic, so any action the public can take to help lessen the chance for exposure will be a good move.
This decision is not one that we made lightly as we are supportive of our business community and we are sensitive to the impact of our choices. We hope that by being abundantly cautious, we will help limit the possibility of spreading the virus so that we can return to our regular routines as soon as possible.
Over the next few weeks, we have cancelled the following events. All Columbia Chamber committee meetings will be held via teleconference. The Chamber team will be reaching out to you if you have registered online or if you need more information.
