With Disney's recent purchase of 21st Century Fox, the X-Men will soon be headed to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, longtime producer Lauren Shuler Donner might not be joining them.

In an interview with /Film, Donner revealed she most likely won't have a hand in the new films. “X-Men now belongs to Disney and it’s in their capable hands,” she explained. “That’s really up to Kevin Feige. He started out with me. I trust him. I think whatever he does, it won’t be right away. I think he’s already dealing with the plan that he set in motion for the other Marvel universe. But, I will not be involved most probably. I’ll be friend of the court.”

Having been involved with the films since the first X-Men movie back in 2000, Donner has overseen almost every film in the franchise, though she claims to have had no involvement with X-Men: Apocalypse, Dark Phoenix and the still-unreleased The New Mutants. She also served as executive producer for Legion and The Gifted.

In regards to the X-Men's eventual entry into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Feige has stated the characters might not appear for "a very long time."
