    Storm’s Loss and Forge’s Burden
Episode 4 of X-Men ’97 takes a detour from the mutant intrigue surrounding the Friends of Humanity (FOH) to focus on Storm and the aftermath of her power loss. Wracked with guilt over having created the technology used in the FOH’s dampeners, Forge tries to make amends by assisting Storm in regaining her control over the weather. The episode delves into Forge’s past through flashbacks, revealing a younger version pressured by the government to build these mutant-suppressing devices. As they work together, a sense of connection grows between Storm and Forge, hinting at a potential romance.

While Storm grapples with her powerlessness, we see a sweeter side of Jubilee’s personality. His interactions with Storm suggest a deeper attachment, potentially setting the stage for a love triangle in the future.

The episode’s true antagonist finally steps into the light: Mister Sinister. It’s revealed that he’s been manipulating the FOH from the shadows, likely with the intention of using them to capture and potentially experiment on mutants. This adds a new layer of complexity to the situation, making Mister Sinister’s goals a central point of future episodes.

She kidnaps Nathan and hands him off to Sinister before subjecting the X-Men to horrific visions until the real Jean confronts her telepathically, during which the latter reminds her of their shared memories. Morph leads the X-Men to one of Sinister’s labs, where they find him infecting Nathan with a techno-organic virus under the belief that it will turn him into the ultimate mutant. Free of Sinister’s control, the clone turns on him, but Nathan is left gravely ill. The clone and Cyclops task Bishop with taking Nathan to the future in the hopes of finding a cure there. Afterward, the clone leaves the X-Men, taking the name Madelyne Pryor. Meanwhile, Storm meets with Forge who tells her he can restore her powers.

Toranaga returns to Ajiro with his entire army, and upon learning of Nagakado’s killing of Jozen, he strips him of his command of the cannon regiment and gives the position to Omi. Having survived the ordeal in Osaka to escape to Edo, Buntaro moves in to live with Blackthorne and Mariko. Blackthorne is gifted a freshly killed pheasant by Toranaga, which he hangs in the front yard of his house to age and instructs the household not to touch it until it matures. During dinner, Blackthorne and Buntaro engage in a sake-drinking binge before Buntaro proves his archery skills while drunk and forces Mariko to tell Blackthorne about how her father, Akechi Jinsai, murdered Lord Kuroda Nobuhisa, the previous ruler of Japan before the Taikō, and was forced to execute his family before committing seppuku, and that she married Buntaro and was forced to live as atonement for her father’s crime. Later that night, upon learning that Mariko has been assaulted by Buntaro, Blackthorne confronts him outside, but Buntaro lays down his sword and apologizes for disturbing his home. The next day, after a long discussion with Mariko, Blackthorne returns home to discover that Uejiro, the house’s gardener, took down the rotting pheasant to bury and was executed as a result. Blackthorne declines Fuji’s request to kill her for disobeying his order regarding the pheasant and approaches Toranaga with a request to permanently leave Japan. A massive earthquake causes a landslide and Blackthorne rescues Toranaga from being buried alive. Blackthorne returns to a heavily damaged Ajiro and discovers that Fuji had been injured. The following day, Muraji leads Yabushige and Omi to Uejirou’s hut and manages to convince them that he is the spy that they were searching for. Directed by: Haylee Herrick
    Written by: Helen Leigh
    Date Aired: March 14, 2024
    Summary:
In “This Must Come as a Shock,” we see the aftermath of the Viltrumite attack. Mark stays on Thraxa for two months, helping to rebuild the cities before returning to Earth with his brother Nolan.
At the Global Defense Agency (GDA), things are far from normal. Donald confronts Cecil about his body, only to discover Cecil’s brain has been placed within a robotic endoskeleton after his death. The Guardians’ world is rocked again when they discover a Martian ship heading straight for Earth. This prompts Shapesmith to reveal his true identity as a Martian and warn of a coming invasion by the squid-like Sequids.
Faced with this new threat, Cecil pulls out all the stops. He recruits Mark and Eve, who recommits to heroism with encouragement from Rex. Meanwhile, Rex, Dupli-Kate, and Shrinking Rae find themselves in a deadly confrontation with the Lizard League. The League attempts to hold the world hostage with stolen nuclear missiles, and the fight ends in tragedy. Both Kate and Rae are killed, and Rex is captured by King Lizard after losing a hand in the battle.
Back at the GDA, the situation is grim. The Guardians are drastically outnumbered by the invading Sequids and on the verge of defeat. But just as hope seems lost, a shocking revelation emerges. Allen, who was previously injured, has somehow recovered and now possesses Viltrumite-level strength. Thanks to Thaedus turning off his life support, Allen reveals himself as a Viltrumite rebel. He approaches Mark with a critical mission: to join the Coalition of planets fighting against the Viltrumite Empire.

He’s offered a home, a salary, and a woman named Usami Fuji as his companion in exchange for training Yabushige’s army for six months.
Meanwhile, Yabushige’s nephew suggests they take the captured cannons from the Erasmus and offer them to Ishido in Toranaga’s absence.
During training, Blackthorne teaches the samurai how to use cannons more effectively.
An aide from Ishido arrives, asking Yabushige to return to Osaka and pledge loyalty to the remaining regents. Fearing for his life, Yabushige invites the aide to stay the night. At dinner, Blackthorne gives Fuji a gun as a gift, and she gives him her father’s swords.
The next day, during a demonstration of the cannons, Nagakado disobeys orders and uses chain shot to kill Jozen and his men, much to Yabushige’s horror.
