If you’ve been dragging your feet getting the battery on your older iPhone repaired, you only have a few more months left to score a battery replacement for $29. Starting December 31, that replacement price will more than double to $79, even if you qualified for a replacement under the less expensive program.
Apple will be ending the replacement program on December 31, 2018. Gadgethacks notes that the ending just applies to devices that are currently out of warranty. So, if for some reason you have an older device that’s still covered under Apple’s warranty or an Apple Care plan then you should be in the clear.
iPhones covered under the plan are the iPhone 6, 6 Pus, 6s, 6s Plus, SE, 7, 7 Plus, 8, 8 Plus, and X.
You can check online using Apple’s coverage checker to determine if your phone specifically is covered.
The deal also only applies once per IPhone, so if you had your battery replaced already and are having problems again, you’re pretty much SOL.
Even if you’re not having a ton of trouble with your battery yet, it could be in your best interest to go and get your battery replaced prior to the deal running out, that way you can avoid a potential problem once the program has ended.
And I’d personally recommend getting that phone fixed in the next month or so. As Thanksgiving and Christmas approach (and that upcoming iPhone launch), the Apple Store is going to start to get a lot busier. You’re significantly better off getting your phone fixed before the holiday season than trying to battle the crowds once it’s fully underway.
