Trier-Ayton Combo Power Arizona to 99-74 Victory

While Trier and Ayton shouldered the scoring load for UA, the team tallied 29 assists.

BARCELONA, Spain – The University of Arizona Wildcats used strong second and third quarters to propel themselves to a 99-74 victory over the Mataro All-Stars in UA's second exhibition of its Spanish foreign tour. Junior Allonzo Trier filled up the stat sheet, finishing with 21 points, five rebounds, eight assists and four steals. Freshman Deandre Ayton recorded a double-double in Barcelona after scoring 18 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.

The beginning of the game was a neck and neck affair as Arizona's lead hovered between three and six points for much of the first quarter.  UA closed out the first half strong to take a 55-39 lead into intermission as Allonzo Trier scored 13 points in the first half while missing just one of his six shots from the field.

The Wildcats outscored their opponent by 14 points in the third quarter to advance their lead to 84-54 after three quarters. The 30-point lead was fueled by inside scoring as UA only hit one of seven three-pointers.

After his four points and 14 rebounds in the exhibition opener in Valencia, senior Dusan Ristic tallied 14 points and five rebounds on Wednesday evening in Barcelona. Freshman Brandon Randolph finished Wednesday's victory with nine points, three rebounds, five assists and two steals.

Arizona has three more days and one more exhibition in Barcelona to wrap up their Spanish foreign tour. UA will face Mataro Parc Boet on Friday, Aug. 18 at 10 a.m. (MST).
