In his words: “Blood, sweat and respect. First two you give, last one you earn.” In other words: The world does not owe you a living and never will. Every new job, every new challenge, the dial returns to zero. The Rock, it seems safe to say, does not do complacency. Neither should you.

In his words: “When you walk up to opportunity’s door, don’t knock it. Kick that bitch in, smile and introduce yourself.” In other words: Don’t wait for your chances – take them. When you do, leave your ego at the door, turn on the charm and win people over.

In his words: “Success isn’t always about ‘greatness’, it’s about consistency. Consistent hard work gains success. Greatness will come.” In other words: Anything is possible. If you believe enough and work hard enough, you can achieve whatever you want.

In his words: “Let your actions do your talking for you – unless you’re telling a good dirty joke.” In other words: A modern spin on Carl Jung’s mantra “You are what you do, not what you say you’ll do.” But with humour.

In his words: “When life puts you in tough situations, don’t say, ‘Why me?’ Just say, ‘Try me.’” In other words: When faced with adversity, keep your chin up. Complaining won’t help you beat obstacles, but a strong attitude just might.

In his words: “Wake up determined. Go to bed satisfied.” In other words: No matter how ambitious your long-term goals might be, you still have to exist in the present. Set yourself challenging but achievable daily goals and enjoy the feeling of “winning” each day.
