Columbia River Brewing is Closing
The Northeast Portland brewpub will close by the end of next week.
Rick Burkhardt was a homebrewer and regional manager at Sears department stores before moving to Portland from Utah. Burkhardt purchased the old Laurelwood Brewing Pizza Co. assets and took over the lease in a turnkey operation to open Columbia River Brewing in July of 2010. Laurelwood had vacated that location in the Hollywood neighborhood, home of their original pub and brewery, because of troubles with the landlord. Now it looks like Columbia River Brewing is ending their nearly nine years in business for the same reasons.
Columbia River Brewing has had a very good run, despite running under the radar for the last handful of years, they have a solid pub clientele. CRB has also done well in competitions, Stumbler's Stout won Silver medals at both the World Beer Cup and Great American Beer Festival. For those wondering if Columbia River Brewing will have a life after closing of the Hollywood brewpub, word is that Rick Burkhardt is retiring. So, take this opportunity to give your respects because the pub is likely to close by mid next week. This Saturday, friends and regulars will be gathering and the pub for a final hurrah.
