Sushi Concept Planned for Short North Mixed-Use Project

Imagine Forno, but with sushi instead of pizza. That’s the concept Corso Ventures has planned for the restaurant that’ll open inside the five story mixed-use building going up at the intersection of Third Avenue and High Street in the Short North.

Like Forno, this new restaurant will have an open kitchen, allowing guests to witness the assembly of their sushi. Also similar, while sushi will be the main focus, Corso Ventures Director of Operations Reed Woogerd said the menu will be broad, offering “an array of classic Asian inspired apps and entrees, and other must haves like a great high-end burger.” It’ll have sake, too.

“We are looking to bring the vibrance of Forno to this pocket of the neighborhood,” Woogerd added. “A place that is casual enough that you can stop in for cocktails and appetizers as you hop around the Short North. Or you can come in for date night or dinner with family and friends”

Again comparing it to Forno’s take on pizza, Woogerd said this restaurant’s sushi will take an involved, immersive approach. Looking forward to the challenge of “doing sushi well,” he’s been traveling to some of the country’s top sushi spots for research.

This venture will be on the ground floor of the mixed-use building, which will also include 166 one-bedroom and studio units as well as 146 parking spaces on the ground and basement floors. The restaurant has no name as of yet, leaving room for the “personality of the business” to change.
