Mr. Bhavana Suryakiran, a resident of Ravulapalem in East Godavari district was driving his motorcycle last Sunday when the Redmi Note 4 in the pocket of his pants flared up. The burning phone could be pulled out of his pocket only after bystanders poured water over his pants. He is said to be severely wounded.
It had been only 20 days since the smartphone was bought from Flipkart. The owner of the phone will be filing a suit against Xiaomi for having sold him a faulty product and also to obtain necessary compensation for the injuries caused to him.
Xiaomi reacted to the issue by issuing a statement which says, "We take such matters seriously as customer safety is of utmost importance for Xiaomi. All of our devices go through stringent quality tests. We have been able to establish contact with the customer and are in the process of procuring the damaged product to carefully investigate the case."
Xiaomi has had a dream run in India mainly owing to their products offering more features at low prices. Many sceptics have been warning that such value for money can be provided only by compromising on quality. Looks like they have been right all along.
