Haywood County syringe exchange data will now be kept locally to better gauge the program’s impacts, as was agreed upon at a Jan. 8 meeting between county commissioners, administrators and local health and harm reduction officials.

The meeting was prompted after an exchange at a December Haywood County Board of Commissioner meeting where Commissioner Mark Pless expressed frustration about needles being discarded in public places.
