4 Ways to Motivate Your Sales Team

4 Ways to Motivate Your Sales Team

Made up of specialized people chosen for their dedication to your brand and your target customers, your sales team is an important part of your business that can make or break you in regards to success. When you are looking to keep these important people on-task and focused on the same goals that you prioritize, motivating this team becomes even more important to get right.

If you're looking for the best ways to motivate your sales team for help in selling those aftermarket services, here are some great tips to get you started the right way.

Celebrate the wins – even the small ones

We all know that celebrating those big wins is important and will help bring “a cup of cheer” to your employees, but what about those smaller milestones and wins? Since they are technically wins and are positives, they should be celebrated too. Recognition of every positive milestone is a great way to help your sales team see that their efforts are appreciated and recognized, even if they seem smaller than others.

Put together a team building event

There are all sorts of options out there to create a cohesive sales team, and a team event is going to be one of the best options because it infuses fun into the team building itself. Great examples include a team getaway or something productive such as an escape room. Even if it's just a team building exercise that lasts for a few hours, it can help your sales team become closer and stronger which will motivate your team to do better. It's a positive cycle that you'll want to repeat.

Help make your workspace a positive place

It's easy to get stuck in the negatives in a work place because it's, well, work. Do what you can to keep it a positive place for your sales team so that they want to come to work each day and enjoy their time there while they work for you and your bottom line. Maybe it's a comfortable break room or a weekly treat or lunch. Maybe it's week or month end little surprises for meeting goals. Maybe it's bright colored paint on the wall, or maybe it's just keeping work a positive place in terms of conversation.

When accomplishing a goal, allow an employee to pick their own reward

Friendly competitions for your sales team is always a great option to drive up sales and help them to enjoy the sales they make as well. But, one of the best ways to make it profitable for both you and them is to allow the employee who wins to pick their own reward. This will make them see that winning the competition is actually profitable for them and will motivate the rest of your team to win, too. Consider this, if you provide a reward that isn't valuable to them, they might not be as motivated to win it. Who wants a gift card for a pet shop when they don't have a pet? Well, that might not be a typical reward, but you get the idea.

Your sales team is a critical part of your work environment and learning how to motivate them honestly and profitably is going to be easier than you thought when you put these tips to work to help you achieve your own goals. Your next sale is just one enjoyable tip away for your team! So, why wouldn't you create incentives your team to WANT to work harder, smarter and make them and you a little more money?
