How to File an FDA Complaint About Makeup, Personal Care Products, or Even Tattoos

There are thousands of products out there to smear on your face and body, and they aren’t rigorously safety tested before they hit the market. That’s why it’s important to know that you can file an FDA complaint if you think a product irritated your skin, gave you an allergic reaction, or worse.

Here are the instructions for filing a complaint. The FDA wants to know if there’s anything wrong with a product, like a funny smell or foreign objects, or whether you’ve experienced a bad reaction from it. And the cosmetics department covers everything from body wash to tattoos (both temporary and the regular kind).

Recently, the FDA launched an investigation into a hair product company after they received 127 complaints. But the company itself had received 21,000 complaints! So if there’s a problem, don’t just gripe to the company. Let the FDA know.
