Eject Water From Your Phone's Speakers After an Unexpected Dunk Using This Web Tool

At some point or another, even the most careful of us ends up having a smartphone mishap, specifically one that results in our $1,000+ piece of equipment taking a dunk in a puddle, pool, or more likely, a toilet.

In general, the best move in such a situation is to turn your phone off immediately and then put it in a bag of instant rice for a day or two to let everything dry out.

If you have a phone that’s water resistant, then the threat of annihilation might be a bit lower, in which case you just want to get the water out as quickly as possible.

Fix My Speakers is a web app that works similarly to the Apple’s Watch’s built-in water ejection feature. With it, you press a button and the phone plays a specific tone that helps generate sounds waves that eject all that water from your phone. Here’s it working in action:

The idea here is to get the water out quickly, so it doesn’t stick around in your speakers for a long time and screw up your phone.

If your water exposure is a rainstorm and not a toilet then this may be all you need to be up and running. If your phone did take a dunk, I’d still recommend taking it out of service for at least a few hours (preferably 24) and letting it sit in rice just to make sure everything is dry. In the case of an expensive phone, spending a day without your device is infinitely better than having to replace it.
