January 14, 2018 Announcement about Congestion

The current congestion at port and rail terminals have been exacerbated by a very large number of incremental loads arriving on extra loader ships in advance of expected increased tariffs.

Harbor Freight Transport WILL NOT be responsible for demurrage or
per diem charges incurred due to terminal congestion. Please contact us before dispatching any new orders so that we may provide you an accurate time frame for handling. It may be required for you to guarantee demurrage at the terminals until this congestion has cleared and we have availability.

This has impacted one of the terminals especially hard. Ongoing congestion continues to affect terminal performance so that our drivers can complete only one turn (load/empty) in a day.  Drivers have been detained on terminal as much as 7 hours.

Congestion at one terminal effects trucking operation at all terminals, the situation is straining all port activities.  Drivers and equipment tied up all day at one facility drain resources that should be allocated to other work.

Demurrage and per diem charges are a major concern for all stake holders.  Terminal delays and the requirement by the ocean carrier to return empties to terminals other than where they originated is becoming a regular occurrence.

Please contact your ocean carrier as to the incidents of demurrage and per diem costs being caused by this ongoing congestion.  The occurrence of demurrage and per diem costs will increase up to and until the terminal congestion is relieved in the Port of NY/NJ.

Your patience and continued support is appreciated as we work through these issues together.

Thank you.
