Sean Miller Announces Arizona Hoops Recruiting Class

The five members of the 2018 recruiting class are joined by junior Chase Jeter who sat out last season after transferring from Duke.

TUCSON, Ariz. – The University of Arizona basketball program and head coach Sean Miller have announced the 2018 recruiting class, which includes a total of five players. Three incoming freshmen will join the Wildcats from the prep ranks while two college transfers also join the class.

JUSTIN COLEMAN – 5'10" 170 POUNDS – GUARD – SAMFORD UNIVERSITY
  • 2017-18 All-Southern Conference Second Team selection while averaging 13.5 points, 2.8 rebounds and 6.6 assists per game.
  • Tallied 210 assists for the Bulldogs last season, which led the conference and were the second most in program history.
  • Conference Player of the Week after averaging 20 points and 10 assists per game in a pair of wins over Wofford and Furman in third week of January.
  • Played freshman and sophomore seasons at Alabama where he appeared in 67 total games, averaging 6.1 points, 1.5 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game.
  • Joins the Wildcats as a senior graduate transfer
Coach Miller on Justin Coleman:
"He is your quintessential point guard in that he passes the ball extremely well. If you checked the history of him as a player at Alabama, against one of Oregon's best teams, he finished with 29 points, so he's also capable of scoring and shooting. He is somebody who is in his fifth year of college. Every person that we talked to that had coached him or been around him spoke highly of him, and the two words that kept popping up were 'high character'. From a leadership perspective, even though he'll be a new player on the team, he'll give us that age and that experience that this team really needs."

RYAN LUTHER – 6'9" 225 POUNDS – FORWARD –UNIVERSITY OF PITTSBURGH
  • Like new teammate Justin Coleman, Luther joins UA as a senior graduate transfer
  • Played in 86 games in four seasons for Pitt, averaging 5.2 points and 3.5 rebounds per game while shooting 52.5 percent from the field and 41.5 percent from beyond the arc
  • Averaged 12.7 points, 10.1 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game last season for the Panthers before season-ending injuries
  • Two-time Academic All-ACC selection and NABC Honors Court selection
  • Set a Pitt record with 15 consecutive made field goals during non-conference play in 2016-17.
Coach Miller on Ryan Luther:
"Ryan averaged a double-double this year until he unfortunately went down with a season-ending injury. A lot like Justin Coleman, Ryan is older and experienced having played in the ACC. He has played for two tremendous coaches in Kevin Stallings and Jamie Dixon. Both of those coaches raved about Ryan both as a kid and as a player. I know his family very well in the same sense of my relationship with T.J. McConnell and his family. We kind of grew up drinking the same water. I know his family very well. From a physical and skill perspective, he adds to our front court."

DEVONAIRE DOUTRIVE – 6'5" 175 POUNDS – GUARD – LOS ANGELES, CALIF.
  • Consensus Top 100 recruit for the 2018 class by major scouting services
  • Considered a top ten prospect out of the state of California
  • Helped guide Birmingham High School to the regional finals of the SoCal division of the CIF
  • From Pac-12 roots with siblings who played at Utah and Cal
Coach Miller on Devonaire Doutrive:
"Devonaire was the first player to join us in this class. I think for he and his family that there is always a special place for them because at that moment when our season ended, we needed that first player to say yes, and he was that guy. Devonaire has a world of talent, a lot like Omar, he's progressed in his senior year of high school by leaps and bounds. I really believe who he is, from when he comes in June to spring of his freshman year, he is going to keep getting bigger, stronger, and better. He is a tremendous athlete who can really handle the ball. He's a big guard and someone who is versatile. You don't have to pigeon-hole him into one position, he can play multiple positions. He's 6-foot-5-inches and a very good athlete. Also, he's a great kid who's had to work hard in his life to overcome and fight, and I think he'll be someone that has a really outstanding career for us."

OMAR THIELEMANS – 6'7" 210 POUNDS – FORWARD – OSTEND, BELGIUM
  • Rated as a four-star prospect by 247 Sports
  • Arizona's first ever signee from Belgium, joining recent European pipeline that included Dusan Ristic (Serbia) and Lauri Markkanen (Finland)
  • Played club basketball in Brussels for BC Oostende
  • Speaks English, French, Dutch and German
Coach Miller on Omar Thielemans:
"Omar came to us via Europe. If you follow recently here with our program, we've had great success with Dusan (Ristic), Lauri (Markkanen), and Keanu (Pinder) as international players that have come here and done really well. I think that attracted Omar. Omar is one of those players that I mentioned earlier; his best days are in front of him. His development over the next couple years will be crucial to our program and his career, but there is a lot to work with. He loves the game. He's 6-feet-6-inches, he's played in international competition and has a very unselfish nature to him. He is a very good athlete, and I think there is a lot for us to work with and develop. He'll be able to have an impact for us on the wing at any position."

BRANDON WILLIAMS – 6'2" 185 POUNDS – GUARD – ENCINO, CALIF.
  • Consensus Top 40 recruit for the class of 2018 by major scouting services
  • Ranked as a top three prospect in the state of California by 247 sports
  • Averaged 24.7 points, 5.0 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 2.4 steals per game as a senior.
  • Product of Crespi Carmelite High whose alumni include former UVA guard London Perrantes
  • Continues the Southern California pipeline of perimeter players to UA, including Parker Jackson-Cartwright, Gabe York, Stanley Johnson and Solomon Hill as of late.
Coach Miller on Brandon Williams:
"Brandon Williams is the signee that a lot of people like to talk about. We know Brandon better than anyone we recruited because we recruited him the longest.  I feel great that he came back our way; he's a fantastic kid. He plays for a great high school coach and a great high school program: Crespi in Los Angeles, which has produced a lot of terrific players. Brandon wasn't on the (summer) circuit before his senior year of high school. If he was, he'd be a McDonald's All-American. I don't think there are six guards in his class who are better than him. He is today's version of a guard in that he can both score and distribute. He's a great athlete, 6-feet-2-inches, very explosive, and we're thrilled to have him back. He's a winner as well that has won at every level."

The five-member 2018 recruiting class is joined by Chase Jeter who redshirted last season for Arizona following his transfer from Duke. Jeter played two seasons for the Blue Devils after being a McDonald's All-American as part of the 2015 recruiting class.
