Course Description

Shading brings flat images to life, creating depth and a sense of realism. But shade, shadow and highlights can also be establish mood, inject fantasy, humour, fear, cheer and a sense of place. Shading can be based on observation, imagination, can be full on or incidental. Learn, explore.

Structure

The first half of the class will be focused on learning materials regarding shade, shadow and highlight. The second half on individual endeavours, reviews etc. determined by each student.

For the second half, you may want to have a review of some of your work or portfolio, get help with a project your working on, or ask questions you've encountered working with traditional art materials or digital methods. Generally, shade, shadow and highlight should be the focus of the day, though a particular question might not to our topic. But the class can’t go off on long tangents regarding off-topic subjects.

If you don't have something to work on, I'll have shade and shadow projects you can choose from.

What to Bring

For the first half, no need to bring anything, though you may want to take some notes. For the second half, bring materials you want to work with - digital and/or traditional, though I'll have lots of art materials available too. Bring your laptop if you want to work on digital shade, shadow or highlight.

Committing to the class

With the small number of students and the brief time between now and when the class runs, it won't be possible to accommodate enrolees who want to change to a different date. If you withdraw from a class up till 10 days before it runs, you'll get a refund of 50% of the class's cost. After that there won’t be a refund.

Flexible activities within our core topic

An advantage of a really small class is that people can bring up subjects related to the class topic that they have questions about or are interested in. Or we can modify an activity based on individual interests.

Class duration/cancellation

If there are only 2 students in the class, it will probably end a half-hour early. If only one student is enrolled the class may be cancelled and your money refunded.

If any questions please let me know.Best, Bill

FAQ

  • I have not received my ticket via email. What should I do?

The first thing to do is check your spam/junk filters and inboxes. Your tickets were sent as an attachment and can be thought of as spam by some email services. Alternatively, you can always find your tickets in your Billetto account that you can access in the browsers or the dedicated Billetto app. For more help with this, read here.

  • I wish to cancel my ticket and receive a refund. What should I do?

The approval of refunds is entirely at the event organiser’s discretion, and you should get in contact with the event organiser to discuss what options are available to you. To get in touch with the event organiser, simply reply to your order confirmation email or use the "Contact organiser" form on the organiser's profile. For more help with this, read here.

  • I have registered on the waiting list, what happens now?

If more tickets become available you will be notified (by email) amongst others who have joined the list. Purchasing is on a first-come first-serve basis. For more information, read here.

  • Where do I find a link to an online event?

Check your order confirmation page or order confirmation email. Usually, the organiser of the event provides the details in the order confirmation email or they might send you a follow-up email with a link to their online event. You might also want to read the event description on Billetto where an event organiser should describe how to join the event online. For more information on this, read here.
