For the first time, Sweden has a three-Michelin-star restaurant. The French tire company with a dining guide side hustle released its 2018 stars for Nordic countries (including Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, and Iceland), and Stockholm tasting menu restaurant Frantzén is the only new three-star addition this year.

Chef Björn Frantzén reopened his eponymous restaurant in September after closing it in 2016 to move to a bigger space. He described it to Eater as “the old Frantzén times 10.” Michelin apparently agreed — the old Frantzén had just two Michelin stars.

The Nordic guide for 2018 features 64 starred restaurants in total, including three three-star restaurants, seven two-star restaurants, and 54 one-star restaurants. There are two new two-star restaurants — Daniel Berlin in Kåne Tranås, Sweden and Kadeau in Copenhagen, Denmark — and nine new one-star restaurants this year.

Denmark and Sweden have the most starred restaurants in the guide, with 26 restaurants each. Noma, which just reopened in Copenhagen last week, is not among the Danish selections for the second year in a row. But, given its previous two-star standing and Michelin’s preference for the kind of the tasting menu experience Noma provides, 2019 stars are likely.

Stay tuned for the full list of this year’s Michelin stars for Nordic countries.
