Presenter of this month's Meet the Scientist Webinar

Presented by:

Carrie J. McAdams, M.D., Ph.D.

University of Texas Southwestern Medical School

Eating disorders are severe mental illnesses that include problems related to both social and eating behaviors. Using functional magnetic resonance imaging, we examine how brain function and social perceptions differ in anorexia nervosa. We also consider how these neurocognitive differences vary across two stages within the disease – recently ill compared to sustained weight-recovery. In the future, we hope to use these data to reverse-engineer new treatments targeting these biological differences.
