Denver Boudoir Photos – Spring Outdoors! Featuring the Gorgeous Mrs. A

What do you get when you cross a beautiful friend and photographer, gorgeous spring blooms, and a beautiful sunrise? Some fantastic photos, of course. Another photographer friend told me about a beautiful location last year that was blooming. When my clients want to do their Denver boudoir photos, usually they opt for studio photos because of the intimate nature of the photos. The simple fact is that when we’re outside, there are factors beyond my control, like weather, lighting, and people walking their dogs that might get a glimpse of some lingerie. It doesn’t happen very often that I get to shoot outside, so when I heard about an awesome springy location, I sent a text message to my friend and then assistant, the gorgeous Mrs. A. I know that she loves flowers, and thought she might be perfect – but it was really last minute, and kind of a long shot. It can’t hurt to ask, right?

She said yes! (I feel like I’m in a Jared commercial or something.)

You know I’m excited when I get up before sunrise to shoot. Sunrise is usually the best time to do Denver boudoir photos outdoors, because there aren’t too many people outside. We met at the park, and were greeted by some beautiful blossoms. Even though the flowers were blooming, it was still pretty chilly – welcome to Colorado, right? But Mrs. A didn’t even flinch at the cold. She was a trooper, and did an amazing job in front of the camera! I get to know most of my clients pretty well, but because I had worked with Mrs. A for so long, I know with certainty that she is not only beautiful on the outside, but on the inside as well. She is kind and sweet, and I’m so blessed to call her my friend.

She shared some words of wisdom and thoughts on her session!

What do you love about your body?

I love how strong it is and how hard it works. Five years ago I was hit by a drunk driver and I was told that there were a lot of things that I would never do again, most exercises being included. It was a very hard painful journey of learning to find a new normal, learning to have grace with myself in the pain and recognizing when to say, “I’ve had enough, I’ve fought a good fight for today and now I have earned my rest”, I have also learned how to push myself through the pain. Sometimes limits are there and we need to respect them, and sometimes they are there for us to push a boundary and find out how strong we really are.

Exercise has become a tangible reminder for me to stay engaged in the fight, to never let the accident steal life from me, to keep fighting and to stay engaged and giving it my all, because there is still so much life to experience.

I also love my legs, because their shape is rockin’, my eyes, because they are pretty, my hair because it’s is an unusual shade of red, and my boobs because…well, boobs are fabulous!

How did you feel about being half naked in front of the camera?

Well, I was very nervous before hand, but once the Brooke started shooting all of my anxiety just faded away. Adrenaline kicked in and I felt sexy and alive and fully present, like for the first time in my life I was fully inhabiting every part of my body instead of trying to take up the least amount of space possible. Even though it was a sunrise shoot in May and when I left my house there was frost on the ground, I wasn’t cold. I felt excited and happy and even a little giddy. Brooke gave detailed instructions on how to pose and hold my face so I knew there would be no double chins and that if I followed her instructions she would make sure that I looked good. The attention to detail that she paid to how I stood or held my hand, or the way she arranged my hair, made me confident that despite not being a model, she would make me look like one. She made me relax and laugh, and we giggled like we’ve been best friends for years. I cannot imagine anyone that could make someone feel more confident.

What do you wear when you want to feel amazingly gorgeous?

On a normal day, boots and a short skirt, I adore fake eyelashes and hair extensions, I tried them for my wedding and they made me feel like a Disney princess.

What’s your best tip for feeling sexy?

For me it means doing the things that make me who I am, the things that make me feel alive. For instance, I traveled to India, not because it is the most practical or relaxing vacation destination, but because it intrigued me, I had the time and the resources and the opportunity. Was there a practical part of myself that brought in doubt and old lady questions?? Absolutely, but I am so glad that I went, it changed my view on the country, the world and myself. It reminded me that there are so many exciting and beautiful adventures to have, that I don’t always have to be practical, that I can surprise myself. Other things that I love are having shenanigans with my friends, dressing up and going out, FOOD, hiking in nature, writing, photography and dancing.

I started dancing 4 years ago…I am not the best dancer in the world in fact, sometimes I feel that I have the grace of a hippopotamus on roller skates, but I have gained style and rhythm, and most of all I don’t dance for other people to think I look sexy, I dance because I love the feeling of the music taking over my body, I love to engage with something beautiful, I dance for me!

Why did you decide to do a boudoir shoot?

Well, I started by talking myself out of it! Coming up with all the reasons of why I should wait, or who did I think I was to go prancing around in lingerie like some model? And then I thought… I am beautiful! I am fierce and strong, I am alive and a survivor, my life and my body deserve to be celebrated. That voice inside my head is worse than any high school mean girl and why do I put up with that hag? I would never stand to hear someone talk about one of my friends the way I think about myself. This year I have made a conscious effort to banish the mean girl, that when I look in the mirror I have to say something nice to myself. So when I had the opportunity to do a boudoir shoot I thought why not? And sure I thought, maybe I would like it better if I lost a few pounds, so great, I will schedule another one later and use that as motivation, but I am beautiful, alive and healthy right now! Because I am good enough right now!

This is HUGE ladies – click here to tweet! “I would never stand to hear someone talk about one of my friends the way I think about myself.”

What gets better with age?

I recently met up with an old friend from my past and he told me that I seemed more myself than ever. And I thought, you know I think that is true. I am a lot more honest about what I expect, want and need. I know more of who I am and what I want. I am much clearer about what relationships, food, behavior, experiences nourish my heart, mind, body soul and what depletes me. In relationships, if someone is not being respectful, I am faster to walk away these days because I have realized that life is too short to spend it with people you don’t really like doing things you’re not really into.

So I would say, relationships, my sense of self, how I treat myself and as an effect my body and mind all get better with age, if you consciously strive for it. There is a quote somewhere that the only alternative to aging is death, and I will take aging and all the adventures to come!

Such wise words from a beautiful woman! How about some photos to go with them?
