Branding is not just all hype, colors and marketing strategy. Branding is really all about you. Check out these 3 career secrets from the branding vault that will help you move your career forward today.

Secret #1: Know your Value system

Your values are going to help move you forward in your career. Oftentimes, people get opportunities that are not the best fit for them, because of their value system and end up accepting a job they hate. Be very clear about what your value system is. Values make up who you are as a person.

For example, I place a very high value on information and asking questions. If asking questions and intellectual curiosity is frowned upon within an organization, I am doing myself a disservice by saying yes to any job they offer me. I understand that placing a high value on learning on and collaboration will make me a wonderful candidate for some organizations, and not so much a great fit for others. Being yourself provides authenticity and leads to easier interviews when you start being more selective about whom you interview with. Find a company whose value matches your own and watch your life becomes easier. For the most part, our values don’t change, so to thine own self-be true.

Secret #2: Confidence is key.

I am convinced you can probably be the worst candidate for the position, but you can sway people’s minds if you believe in yourself. Besides, if you don’t believe in you, who will? When you are confident in your value, you can show up as who you are. My clients know I can help them with their careers because my passion and enthusiasm shine through because I’m confident in my skills and abilities with career development. My confidence shines through, whether that’s my intention or not. So, stop fighting yourself and work with your natural skills and abilities.

Secret #3 Networking Relationship-building.

Relationships are the key to your brand. The key to my success has been my relationships. It doesn’t matter if you have a wonderful value system or uber-confident, because if no one knows you all that is for naught.

While many people over-analyze networking, everything you need to know about networking you learned in kindergarten. Let’s look at an example.

Networking in Kindergarten

Kid 1: I like purple juice boxes.

Kid 2: I have a purple juice box.

Success!

Kid 1+ Kid 2: Let’s be friends!

See how simple that process is. As adults, for some reason, we don’t feel it can be this simple. Introduce yourself, find a common interest, and grow from there.
