Have you seen Emma? It is very likely that you have seen the recent publicity about ‘The Work Colleague of the Future’ – a report on the long-term health of office workers. If you have, you probably also saw Emma, the mannequin created to represent all the ailments of our current sedentary lifestyle. I have read the report and agree with much of its content. However, I am no biological anthropologist but it seems to me that there are some quite staggering assumptions made to extrapolate the mannequin’s appearance from the report findings – and the cycle of human evolution tends to be rather slower than 20 years! Could this be just a clever (but quite successful!) publicity stunt? #ergonomics #sedentarylifetsyle #wellbeingatwork
Of course it’s pure marketing but hey, your using it And so have I to stimulate conversation on the very real issues and current concerns of our customers so, long may they continue to spend thousands! Clients are Not that gullible.
Bullshit is polite.
That report is absolute bullshit and the fact that the mainstream media has picked up on it so much shows they'll publish anything. We refused to publish the report although we received it well in advance under embargo and I've communicated my issues with it to the people involved. If Fellowes really believe the 'findings' then there's no hope for them either. And don't even get me started on why they chose a woman for that grotesque doll.
Agreed. While we need to be more aware of how we work and how it affects us, I didn't agree with all it said and wasn't comfortable with the shock tactic, so avoided comment. Although in some respects anything that encourages thought and discussion on the topic could be considered a good thing.
The report is an interesting review of much that we already know therefore I'm not sure it tells us anything new. That said, it’s good to have an up to date review and one for businesses and individuals to be aware of. As for Emma...like yourself I’m no biologist but I'm inclined agree with you Guy! It’s certainly grabbed people’s attention. Let’s hope people take note, regardless of how realistic Emma is!
It's a very worrying prospect for all of us office dwellers.

4yComing from a body mechanical background, Emma in my opinion is slightly exaggerated, however I’m in agreement with Roy that she is working well as an awareness campaign to take responsibility for our health.
