HOLIDAY SCAM ALERT

The following scam scenario has been brought to our attention this holiday season and we feel it is important to bring awareness to you:

The con is a consumer making a large purchase at a merchant location and using a credit card, once the card is declined they advise the merchant they need to call their bank. The customer makes a call on their cell phone and says it's the bank, but it is not.

This fake bank employee on the other end of the phone asks to speak to the merchant and then attempts to walk the merchant through the steps to put their payment terminal in offline mode / store and forward mode and run the credit card through again. 

In offline mode, the card never communicates to the issuer and therefore never comes back with the decline. 
 
If a customer is disputing a credit card transaction decline, please contact us at 877-997-9473. Never accept direction from a customer with a decline based on a called that was placed from the customer's cell phone.
