NC Teachers Surveyed About Guns In The Classroom

Mark Johnson, State Superintendent of Education has asked teachers to complete the NC Educators Perspective Survey.

RALEIGH, N.C. -- North Carolina teachers have received a gun survey.

It comes after the deadly Florida High school shooting and after the recent debate if teachers should be armed in classrooms.

Mark Johnson, State Superintendent of Education has asked teachers to complete the NC Educators Perspective Survey.

The survey includes the following two questions:

Q1. Would you like to carry a firearm at school?

_Yes

_No

_Not sure

Q2. Assuming they had extra training, would you like to have certain teachers or administrators at your school to have access to firearms?

_Yes

_No

_Not sure

Johnson issued the following statement:

"We already ask so much of our educations. I do not believe we should ask them to take on another massive responsibility of having firearms in the classroom. As State Superintendent, I am working to reduce additional burdens on teachers so that they can spend more time focused on teaching."

"The General Assembly will be looking at all options in ensuring school safety here in North Carolina, and I look forward to working with them to determine the best ways to keep our students and educators safe."

"I support the expansion of funding for School Resource Officers. Firearms on school grounds should be in the hands of those trained, uniformed law-enforcement professionals who courageously choose a career protecting citizens from violent threats."
