You Can Now Follow Hashtags on Instagram

A month after the feature was seen being tested in the wild, Instagram has just announced that users can now follow hashtags.

“We’re introducing the ability to follow hashtags, giving you new ways to discover photos, videos and people on Instagram,” said Instagram. “Now it’s even easier to stay connected with the interests, hobbies, passions and communities you care about.”

This new feature allows photographers to create feeds full of inspiration by following photography-related hashtags — things like #photography,
#streetphotography, #weddingphotography, and #photojournalism.

The new feature will work in a similar way to how you would follow a user, but this time you’ll see the top posts from users that put particular hashtags in their upload’s description. Some of the latest stories from a hashtag will now appear in the stories bar of the Instagram app.

You can also see the hashtags that other users are following (unless a profile is set to private), just like how you can see which other accounts a person follows.

“Following hashtags is just the beginning of how we’re giving you the tools to discover and be inspired by our community,” said Instagram.
