Rent this very authentic-looking hobbit house

Tiny-house entrepreneur Kristie Wolfe built one of the most authentic-looking hobbit houses we’ve seen—and it’s available to rent. Located in the picturesque hills of Orondo in central Washington, the 288-square-foot abode tucks into a grassy hillside and boasts all the amenities a hobbit would ever desire.

These include, most importantly, a circular front door (economically made from a cable spool), cozy, barrel-like rooms with round entryways, porthole windows, and an oversized stone fireplace. Imagined for a carpenter, the buried residence even holds a woodworking table and other timber details, like a wooden bathtub and sustainably sourced cordwood floors.

But the best part has got to be the killer view of the Washingtonian Shire. With the portal wide open, guests can look out onto the tranquil scenery of rolling hills, which isn’t a shabby alternative to Peter Jackson’s vision of Hobbiton. The house even has a wattle fence, rickety gate, and a little front patio.

Wolfe hopes to build two additional hobbit holes on the 5.5-acre site—one for a beekeeper and the other for a weaver. And because these are tiny homes after all, she envisions creating a separate communal kitchen in the style of an English pub to allow for more living space in each of the holes.
