Former Survivor’s Remorse star Teyonah Parris has booked the lead in an upcoming CBS pilot.

The potential drama series is titled Murder, and is based on the BBC miniseries of the same name.

Its description: “This new take on the investigative drama explores crime through the unique and often-conflicting perspectives of cops and killers, witnesses and victims, friends and family. Shot like a true-crime documentary, the series invites the audience inside the emotional journey of an investigation, allowing them to discern the truth and judge the suspects’ guilt or innocence for themselves.”

Parris’ character will be Detective Ayana Lake ” arising star in the NYPD whose keen intellect and quick, analytic mind are the keys to her success. But when she’s partnered with instinctive intuitive Det. Jack Garrity (not yet cast), styles and personalities sometimes clash.”

Parris, who starred on the critically-acclaimed Survivor’s Remorse until its abrupt end at the conclusion of its fourth season, is known for her role on Mad Men, and in the feature films Chi-Raq and Dear White People. She recently wrapped up a recurring stint on Empire. She’ll be seen on the big screen in Barry Jenkins’ first post-Moonlight film, If Beale Street Could Talk.
