Program Info:
LEDs have presented the lighting world with a completely new paradigm. These are light sources that consume less energy, last forever, produce no heat, produce no artifact degrading UV or IR radiation, and--if you listen the to PR spin machine--will even tie your shoes for you.
In fact, LEDs have proven to be a groundbreaking and outstanding tool in the toolbox of lighting professionals but, like any technological revolution, traditional lighting 101 basics are now outdated and are in need of revision and expansion. In layman’s terms, this session will explore the world of white light produced by LEDs. We will look at the building blocks of understanding how to evaluate and appreciate this new and unavoidable light source.
Principal & Creative Director, Available Light
It was Steven’s interest in applying theatrical lighting techniques to traditional architectural environments that led to his founding of Available Light 25 years ago. In hundreds of projects across the globe, his passion for light and design spans commercial and educational interiors, grandly themed retail spaces, dinosaurs sunning themselves on rock outcroppings in natural history museums, and warring aliens in trade show exhibit displays.
Honors include the LDI Lighting Designer of the Year, and the first ever IALD Radiance Award.
Steven holds an MFA from NYU, is a Fellow of the IALD, and is Past President of the IALD Education Trust. He is committed to assuring the development of the next generation of lighting designers.
