Rosacea Skin Care

If you think rosacea is a long-lasting skin condition that can even go worse, then you are wrong! But yes rosacea may get worse over time if you take it for granted. Otherwise, you can control this common problem just by taking some precautions and avoiding certain products.

Actually, there is no known cure for rosacea, but it is still manageable. Most cases of rosacea can be controlled by avoiding the things that trigger it such as the sun, spicy foods, drinking hot beverages and alcohol. But there is a more about rosacea that you need to take care of. Below I have put together some daily routine products that you have to strictly avoid during rosacea.

1. Products with Fragrance

Products like soaps, cosmetics, cleansers etc mostly contain fragrances and of course, deo’s and perfumes have it. These fragrances can irritate the skin especially a sensitive skin. You need to avoid all the products that contain artificial fragrances or ingredients that contain even natural extracts. Using fragrance-free and allergy-tested products reduces your risk of getting it worst.

2. Products with Paraben Preservatives

Most skin care products and mass-marketed cosmetics including facial cleansers, scrubs, sunscreens, moisturizers and make-up contain a certain amount of paraben as preservatives. When the product is applied to the skin, paraben gets absorbed by the skin and travel through the bloodstream, this result in inflammation and encourages free radical damage.

3. Abrasive Scrubs

First of all, you need to avoid scrubbing your face with harsh products. Avoid soap, astringent, face washes, and alcohol-based cleansers. Better consider using cream or oil based cleansers. Gently wash your face with a liquid non-irritating cleanser. This will not only remove dirt from your face but also reduce redness. Also, avoid using loofahs and brushes for cleaning your face and body.

4. Heavy Makeup Products

By “heavy” I mean wearing different coats of cosmetics that changes your natural beauty and is difficult to remove. Since it requires scrubbing or use of a special makeup remover, it will irritate the skin more. You need to avoid waterproof makeup products too as they have a density and will take more efforts to pull it all off.

5. Oily Products

While you select your makeup tools, be cautious for what you choose that suits your skin type. If you are suffering from acne rosacea, choose oil-free products only. You can use mineral powder and pressed powders as they are free from synthetic chemicals and will not dry the skin which is beneficial to those who suffer from rosacea.

6. Shaving blades

Shaving may become a unique challenge for men with rosacea. Instead of using a dull razor blade, prefer electric razors. Rubbing too many blades across your already sensitive skin could cause trouble so avoid it at all costs. Moreover, always apply some rosacea gel before you shave and avoid dry shaving. Also, use a post-shave balm or moisturizer to soothe the skin after shave instead of using mild aftershaves.

7. Facials

One who is suffering from rosacea, have to skip facials for sure. This can cause severe skin irritations and aggravates rosacea. If you think I am just restricting you from chemical products, then you’re taking it wrong. You have to avoid homemade facial also. In fact, any kind of face massage or rubbing is to be avoided.

Ingredients to avoid

Other than these daily routine products, there are some specific ingredients too that you need to take care of while buying a product. These ingredients have been reported as causing problems to people suffering from rosacea. They are as follows: sodium lauryl sulphate, cocoa butter, cornstarch, fennel, lavender, lanolin, horsetail, peppermint oil, clove, camphor, tea tree and eucalyptus.

Bottom Line:

Products with harsh chemical ingredients including soap, alcohol and perfumes can irritate your skin and make redness worse. You have to randomly try different products until you find products that work best for you and don’t irritate your rosacea. Make the best choice and trigger rosacea!
