TANGIPAHOA PARISH, LA (WVUE) - Thousands of people in the Tangipahoa Parish area spent a very cold night without electricity.

Entergy said only a few hundred are still in the dark Thursday afternoon.

The people in the area off Highway 445 between Robert and Loranger have been through a lot in recent years, having flooded twice last year and now no power with the temperatures dipping into the low teens.

Deborah Sharp had to put her 80-year-old mother under four blankets to survive the cold night.

She says it was difficult but with the help of friends they'll be okay.

"I'm just trying to stay warm," said Sharp. "I got my mother in there she's 80 I told her stay in bed and stay warm."

Entergy Utility crews have been busy in this area.

Entergy Spokesman Mike Burns says the problem was caused when a broken limb broke a powerline near Tickfaw. He said that break has been repaired and customers are now being brought on line.

He predicts power will be restored to this area sometime Thursday.
