Ex-Ridgeway CEO John O’ Hanlon launches new dealer group

Ex-Ridgeway CEO John O’Hanlon has made a return to the motor trade with the launch of a new automotive venture, Waylands Automotive.

The new dealership in Reading will represent Volvo and trade as Volvo Cars Reading. Volvo in Reading was previously represented by Jardine.

The dealership is occupying temporary showroom while new premises are built. The new Volvo centre is due to open in summer 2018.

O Hanlon moved out of motor retailing in May 2016 when he sold Ridgeway to Marshall for £106.9m in a cash deal.

Volvo Car UK managing director Jon Wakefield commented: “I am delighted to welcome John O’Hanlon back to the motor trade with Volvo at the centre of his business.”

“This investment in a fabulous new facility is a sign of the importance Volvo Car UK places on Reading and the surrounding area. This purpose-built site will be the perfect place for customers to experience the Volvo brand and our incredible new range of cars.

O’Hanlon said: “I am delighted to be working with Volvo on this exciting opportunity in the Reading territory.

“The combination of the vibrant Volvo brand with its class leading products and the dynamic Reading economy was too good an opportunity to resist.  Our primary aims will be to deliver class leading service for our customers and a fantastic place to work for our teams.”

James Cox has been appointed as sales manager and Mark Dooler as aftersales manager for the new operation.
