Breast Lift With Dr. Mounir

Mounir Plastic Surgery

Aging, pregnancies, and weight loss can cause the breasts to lose their volume and shape. This can have an impact on a woman’s self-confidence and self-esteem. A mastopexy or the so-called Breast Lift is a surgical procedure to restore the youthful look of the breasts by removing loose skin, reshaping the breast tissue from the inside, and lifting the nipple into a more aesthetically pleasing position. A breast lift or mastopexy does not involve increasing the cup size of your breasts.

Am I A Good Candidate For a Breast Lift?

If you feel that you have lost volume or your breasts have significantly dropped with the nipple sitting below the breast crease or pointing downward.

Then it is more than likely that you would benefit from a breast lift or mastopexy. Usually, if you are presenting one of the symptoms below, then you may wish to contact Dr. Mounir for a face-to-face consultation to confirm if Mastopexy is appropriate for you.

  • If your breasts have dropped, but you feel that your breast volume is big enough, then a breast lift is usually all that is needed.
  • If the nipple is sitting higher than the breast crease and all in all you feel that the breast is sitting high enough, but volume and size are lacking, then a breast augmentation alone is needed.
  • If your breast is lacking fullness, and the nipple is sitting below the breast crease, augmentation mastopexy or the so-called breast uplift with implants may be necessary to improve the look of the breasts.

Your Breast Lift Consultation with Dr. Mounir

During your first consultation, Dr. Mounir will start by listening to your objectives and expectations. He will go through your past medical history and even ask you to contact a GP to get supportive information from them to confirm your health status and medications.

He will want to know whether you have any previous surgical scars, especially on your breasts. Next, Dr. Mounir, Manchester cosmetic breast surgeon, will examine and measure your breasts and inform you about the degree of ptosis of your breasts. He will assess the quality of your skin. At the end of your initial consultation, Dr. Mounir will share with you his surgical opinion and tell you if you are a good candidate for a breast lift and whether you need any additional surgery to achieve a good result and meet your expectations. Dr. Mounir will invite you to take as long as you want before your final decision and come back to see him for a second consultation once you have decided to proceed.

Your Second Consultation with Dr. Mounir

During your second consultation with Dr. Mounir at the Manchester Cosmetic Centre will discuss with you the plan for your Breast Lift surgery. He will inform you about the length of your surgery, the position of your incisions, and how long you need off work.

You will have a pre-operative assessment either with the nurse or Dr. Mounir himself. Based on your medical history, Dr. Mounir may advise you to discontinue certain medications prior to surgery, but this is rare. If you are a smoker, you will absolutely need to stop smoking at least six weeks before and after and after your breast lift in Manchester. If you are over 50 years old, Dr. Mounir may ask you to have a mammogram.

What to Expect During Your Breast Lift Surgery

Dr. Mounir usually performs Breast Lift surgery under General Anesthesia. You will be under the care of an experienced NHS consultant anesthetist. Depending on the complexity, the surgery takes about 90 to 120 minutes to perform. You should stop eating and drinking the night before if your admitting time is early in the morning. Dr. Mounir will come and see you in your hospital’s room right before your surgery. This will be another opportunity to ask him any questions before signing your consent form.

How is the Breast Lift surgery performed?

During your initial and second consultations, Dr. Mounir will discuss with you the appropriate surgical technique he has selected for you depending on your excess skin and the degree of lifting that your breast requires, but also upon the quality of your tissues. The selected technique will have a direct impact on the number of scars you are going to have.

There Are Three Main Surgical Techniques Involving Three Different Incisions:

  • Around the nipple incision, called a “periareolar” mastopexy. This is also called the “donut” lift. Indicated only if you have minimal excess skin.
  • Le Jour technique or the vertical Mastopexy. Also known as a “lollipop” lift. The first incision is created around the areola and the second incision extends downward from the areola to the fold under the breast. Indicated for patients with moderate ptosis.
  • The Weise-pattern technique, also called the inverted T. This incision, also known as the “anchor” lift. Indicated for women with extensive ptosis. Three incisions are needed: around the areola, vertically from the areola to the breast crease, and along the breast crease.

How Do I Recover From Breast Lift Surgery?

During your initial consultation, Dr. Mounir will provide you with post-operative instructions that you should follow carefully after your surgery. You will be instructed to wear a sports bra for at least six weeks. You will be given painkillers and antibiotics for one week. You need at least two weeks off work postoperatively.

Here are few things that you may need to know prior to your surgery:

  • Drains. Dr. Mounir rarely uses drains, and if he does, these will be removed the next day.
  • Incision care. Please keep your wounds dry and clean until your first postoperative check-up with the nurse or Dr. Mounir.
  • Suture removal. Your sutures are dissolvable, but sometimes Dr. Mounir may need to trim some stitches after 7 to 10 days.
  • Monitoring your temperature. Please take your temperature regularly. Do not hesitate to contact Dr. Mounir immediately if there is an increase in your temperature.
  • Soreness and pain. You feel discomfort; this is normal. However, you will be also given some painkillers to control and manage this discomfort feeling.
  • Swelling. As with all surgeries, swelling will be expected. You are allowed to take some ibuprofen if needed.
  • Bruising. Bruises may occur after your surgery and are normal. This depends entirely on the patient.
  • Sleeping. It is important to sleep with at least two pillows under your upper back and head, to keep your torso elevated. This helps relieve pressure on your breasts, reducing swelling and pain.
  • Bathing. Please keep your incisions dry and clean for one week. So no bathing until you have seen your surgeon one week postoperatively.
  • Activity. You will need two weeks off work. You can go back to the gym from four to six weeks.

Breast Lift Surgery Risks

All surgery carries risks. These are the most frequently known complications after breast lift surgery in Manchester:

  • Hematoma: A collection of blood in the breast pocket, especially if an implant was inserted there. This Bleeding requires an urgent return surgical treatment and evacuation.
  • Seroma: A seroma is a collection of clear fluid in the breast pocket, especially if a silicone implant has been inserted. This seroma may need surgical evacuation.
  • Infection: Infection following breast lift surgery is rare but can occur and may necessitate intravenous antibiotics or even additional surgery. You will be given an antibiotic prior to surgery to help prevent infection.
  • Scarring: scars are beyond the surgeon’s control. After six weeks, your scars will be assessed, and if needed, you will be prescribed Haelan tape.
  • Necrosis: Necrosis, or the death of skin or fat, often occurs in smokers or after an infection.
  • Pain: discomfort is frequent.
  • Blood clots: Though rare, blood clots may form in the legs or travel to the lungs following surgery. This is a potentially very dangerous complication.
  • Numbness: some numbness is normal but often resolves after a few months.
  • Asymmetry: If you do have asymmetry before the surgery, you will still have breasts asymmetry after the surgery.
  • Future pregnancy: pregnancy will change the cosmetic outcome, and breasts may drop again.
  • Anesthesia risks: Although general anesthesia is very safe, you should inform Dr. Mounir if you have any family history of anesthesia reactions.
